Hello, I’m Stephen
I run Furniture Assembly Chatham, and it is a one-person business. I give you the price and I do the work myself, so you always know who is coming to your home.
That matters more than it might sound. When you book someone to come into your home, the thing you want to know is who is going to walk through the door.
How this started
People kept asking me. Friends, family and neighbours would buy a wardrobe or a bed, open the box, look at the instructions, and call me. I’d go over, build it, and they’d tell someone else.
I looked around Chatham-Kent and saw that few people were doing furniture assembly as a dedicated service, so I made it the actual job. I have worked with my hands for a living and spent plenty of time moving and handling furniture.
How I work
I follow the instructions
All of them, in order, every time. Skipping steps is how furniture ends up wobbling six months later.
I bring my own tools
You don’t need to own anything or find anything.
I check it before I leave
Doors aligned, drawers running true, everything level and square.
Packaging and clean-up
Clean-up of the packaging is the customer’s responsibility. If you would like it disposed of and there is a bin on the premises, I will take the packaging to the bin.
I put it where you want it
Assembly is finished when the furniture is in its actual spot.
I tell you about anchoring
If a piece should be anchored to the wall for safety, I’ll say so and do it.
The jobs I like most
The big ones people give up on. Wardrobes with sliding doors, bunk beds and entertainment centres.
Fitness equipment. Treadmills, home gyms and weight benches: heavy, awkward, and the job people are most relieved to hand over.
Whole rooms and whole houses. Moving week, a new bedroom set, a rental turning over.
The fiddly precision work. Drawers that run smooth, doors that line up, a bookcase level on a floor that isn’t.

I’m based in Chatham and I work in Chatham, Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Tilbury, Ridgetown, Dresden. Travel outside Chatham starts at $15.
I’m available seven days a week, including evenings.
