Questions
Furniture assembly questions, answered
The things people ask me most often. If yours isn’t here, call 226-542-5544 or send a message on WhatsApp.
Pricing, booking and what to expect
How much does furniture assembly cost in Chatham?
The minimum charge for any visit is $75, which covers up to one hour on site. After that it is from $60 per hour. Most single items, such as a TV stand, a desk or a nightstand, fall inside the first hour. Larger pieces like wardrobes, bunk beds and entertainment centres take longer. Prices include tax, and I give you a fixed quote before I start. See services and prices.
Can I book just one small item?
Yes. A single small item such as a nightstand or a chair can be booked on its own, but the visit still costs the $75 minimum. It is better value to have several small items done in the same visit.
Is there an extra charge for evenings or Sundays?
Yes. Jobs after 6:00 PM, and jobs at any time on a Sunday, have a $20 surcharge. Monday to Saturday before 6:00 PM is the regular price.
Do the prices include tax?
Yes. The prices on this website include tax.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. Quotes are always free with no obligation. The fastest way to get one is to send a photo of the box on WhatsApp.
How do I get a quote?
Call 226-542-5544, message on WhatsApp, email, or use the contact page. Tell me what needs assembling, the brand and model if you have it, and your community. A photo helps most. I reply by phone, WhatsApp or email with a fixed price.
How do I book?
Once you accept the quote, we agree a day and time and I confirm it by text or WhatsApp. I will ask for the address then, and a building access code if there is one.
How much notice do you need?
Please book at least one day ahead.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Let me know as soon as possible, and at least one day before the appointment.
How do I pay?
Cash or Interac e-Transfer, when the work is finished.
What are your hours?
Monday to Friday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Which areas do you cover?
I am based in Chatham and work in Chatham, Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Tilbury, Ridgetown, Dresden. Travel outside Chatham starts at $15.
Do you assemble IKEA furniture?
Yes, regularly. PAX wardrobes, MALM beds, BILLY bookcases, KALLAX shelving and HEMNES dressers are all familiar. See IKEA furniture assembly.
What about Amazon, Wayfair, Costco or Canadian Tire furniture?
All of them, plus Walmart, Structube, The Brick and Leon’s. If it arrived flat in a box, I build it. The brand makes no difference to the price.
Do you bring your own tools?
Yes. You do not need to own anything or find anything.
What happens to the packaging?
Clean-up of the packaging is the customer’s responsibility. If you would like it disposed of and there is a bin on the premises, I will take the packaging to the bin.
Will you put the furniture where I want it?
Yes. Assembly is not finished until the piece is in its actual spot.
Can you anchor furniture to the wall?
Yes, and I recommend it for tall or top-heavy pieces. Anchoring runs $30–$60.
Do you mount televisions?
Yes. TV wall mounting is $100–$180 depending on the size and the wall. Brackets go into studs, never drywall alone.
Can you assemble a treadmill or home gym?
Yes. Treadmills, exercise bikes, ellipticals, weight benches, power racks and full home gyms. These are quoted individually, so send me the make and model.
Can you do a whole bedroom or a whole house?
Yes, and it works out cheaper. Three or more rooms booked together get 15% off, and a single full room gets 10% off.
Do you do commercial and office work?
Yes: office desks, chairs, shelving, reception furniture, retail fixtures and restaurant seating, plus rental turnovers for landlords and Airbnb hosts. Commercial work is charged hourly at $65–$85.
What if a part is missing or damaged?
I will tell you exactly which part is missing so you can request it from the retailer, and I will come back to finish once it arrives. Missing, damaged or defective parts are the responsibility of the retailer or manufacturer. See the service policy.
What if something is not right afterwards?
Tell me and I will come back and look at it.
Can you repair furniture or take it apart for a move?
Yes. I tighten wobbly furniture, fix drawers, adjust hinges and replace hardware; repairs start at $50. For moves, I disassemble, label and bag the hardware, and can reassemble at the other end.
Who actually turns up at my door?
Stephen Pantin, every time. Furniture Assembly Chatham is one person and nothing is subcontracted.
How long does assembly usually take?
A nightstand or small TV stand is often under an hour. A dresser or desk is typically one to two hours. Wardrobes, bunk beds and entertainment centres can take three hours or more.
Do I need to be home while you work?
Someone needs to let me in and confirm where things go, but you do not have to watch.
